The System screens for multiple substances in just ten minutes
Maintaining an open relationship between client and clinician is critical to the success of any drug rehabilitation programme and drug screening can play a positive role in enabling a more transparent approach to treatment and in measuring a client’s progress towards recovery. In contrast to traditional drug screening approaches which require oral fluid or urine samples, fingerprint-based drug testing offers a convenient, hygienic and dignified solution that can be easily implemented in different settings, whether clinical or community-based.
Take a look at our Case Studies to find out how organisations are already benefiting from fingerprint drug testing.
The System screens for multiple substances in just ten minutes
Test samples can be collected at any time and in a variety of locations.
Fingerprint-based testing is non-invasive and more respectful of both service users and operators than conventional screening methods
Fingerprint-based testing offers the flexibility to carry out screening in community settings, with none of the hygiene concerns associated with collection and disposal of body fluid samples
In drug rehabilitation it’s especially important that drug screening serves as a positive tool to help keep a client on track, rather than a degrading or punitive measure which could discourage people from seeking help.
With the portable and non-invasive Intelligent Fingerprinting Drug Screening System, drug testing is quick, easy and, most importantly, dignified. By removing some concerns clients may have about entering treatment, fingerprint-based drug screening may contribute directly to the ongoing success of rehabilitation programmes.
...results in minutes...
Our project involves dedicated substance misuse workers visiting parents to conduct drug testing and, with children often present during routine visits, we’re convinced that the ‘friendliness’ of the fingerprint test will prove a positive factor, particularly given its ability to replace intrusive saliva or urine-based traditional drug testing approaches. Also, with results available in just minutes, case information can be shared quickly with social workers as required – potentially enabling decisions to be made faster and improving child protection.

"The test is mobile and doesn’t require specialist sample collection conditions, so it can be completed easily in either the parent’s own home or elsewhere in the community. This helps to remove barriers, and will also have a positive impact in terms of the cost of running the programme. Fingerprint drug tests are non-invasive, making the process much friendlier for both the parents and the testers while helping to contribute to better outcomes for the Family Safeguarding Service.”

The portability of the Intelligent Fingerprint Drug Screening System means that testing doesn’t need to be carried out in a clinical setting, making it easier to set up screening sessions, collect samples, administer tests and get results. In addition, being able to operate within a broad range of venues means that drug rehabilitation services can get closer to the people who most need their support.

How suitable is your drug testing system for use during the pandemic?
Our fingerprint-based system offers a safe, simple approach to drug testing that’s quick, hygienic and enables social distancing during use.
Face coverings can remain in place throughout testing and there’s no need for close contact or handling of biohazardous body fluids such as saliva or urine samples. Fully portable, our system eliminates the need to call in external drug testers, helping you to lower infection risk and stay in control of costs by bringing testing in-house.
Do you offer a COVID-19/Coronavirus test?
At present, our product range is focused on drugs of abuse testing. However, our R&D team is currently working on a project to develop a point-of-care antigen test for Coronavirus infection detection, with support from researchers at Imperial College London. Project updates will be provided on our website and via the media.
Where can I buy your products?
Which drugs does it detect?
We currently offer two versions of our fingerprint drug test cartridge and each of these screens for multiple drug groups simultaneously:
The DSR-Plus portable reader provides a presumptive positive or negative screening result for each drug group in the test.
How much does it cost?
To ensure you receive accurate pricing information and expert advice, we need to know a little about your drug testing requirements. We will then provide costings specifically tailored to your organisation’s needs. Please contact us for a no-obligation quote.
How quick is the test?
Collection of the fingerprint samples onto the Drug Screening Cartridge takes less than a minute. Analysis of the Cartridge using the DSR-Plus portable reader takes only a few minutes.
How easy is it to use?
Fingerprint-based drug screening is quick, hygienic and simple. Fingerprint sample collection takes seconds and is non-invasive and dignified.
The portable DSR-Plus – which is used to read the Drug Screening Cartridge – is operated via a touchscreen and features simple visual prompts. On-screen results are available in minutes and can be printed via the label printer accessory. Customer training is available on request.
How reliable is fingerprint drug screening?
The accuracy of Intelligent Fingerprinting drug screening tests is comparable to other point-of-care drug screening tests such as those using urine and oral fluid samples. Our UKAS-accredited drug screening cartridges provide an initial screening result. This means that when the DSR-Plus reader indicates a positive result, it is known as a ‘presumptive positive’. For an unequivocal test result, further fingerprint samples are collected for a fingerprint-based laboratory test, ‘Confirmatory Analysis’, to confirm the test results.
What does a positive screening result mean?
The Intelligent Fingerprinting Drug Screening Cartridge and DSR-Plus provide a presumptive result only. This means that when the DSR-Plus provides a positive screening result, it cannot be automatically assumed that the person tested has taken the drug(s) indicated. In circumstances where a positive screening result is obtained and an evidential result is required, the customer will need to verify the result using our fingerprint-based laboratory Confirmatory Analysis service.
Do you offer a confirmation service?
Yes, via our accredited partner laboratories using our Fingerprint Collection Kit For Laboratory Analysis. Please contact us for more details.
Do you supply alcohol tests?
Yes, we supply Home Office Approved alcohol breath intoximeters.
How do I contact your Technical Support team?
Please Contact Us and our technical support team will be happy to assist.
How does the Intelligent Fingerprinting Drug Screening System work?
Our fingerprint drug test works by detecting target drugs and drug metabolites contained within the tiny traces of sweat in fingerprints. Drug metabolites are substances produced by the body when it processes (metabolises) drugs.
It takes less than a minute to collect the fingerprint sweat sample onto a small, tamper-evident cartridge. The cartridge is then analysed by the portable DSR-Plus reader to provide a screening result for each drug group in the test in minutes.

Intelligent Fingerprinting has developed the world’s first portable, fingerprint-based drug testing system, which provides a quick and easy, non-invasive and dignified alternative to traditional point-of-care drug testing.
Why should I switch to the Intelligent Fingerprinting Drug Screening System?
Reasons to choose fingerprint drug testing include:
Which regulatory approvals do you have?
Research & Development, Manufacturing Facilities and Operations for our drug screening products meet stringent validation criteria which comply with ISO 13485 standard for In Vitro Diagnostic Devices and Medical Devices in addition to ISO 9001:2015.
We have regulatory oversight of our sub-contracted reference laboratories where our methodology has gained accreditation with the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), who ensure that the laboratory operates in accordance with the ISO 17025 standard.
Do you have FDA approval?
We are in dialogue with the FDA and are currently preparing the products for submission for FDA 510(k) approval. Our Confirmation Test Cartridge is a registered FDA medical product, and our production site in the UK is FDA registered.
