Intelligent Fingerprinting, a subsidiary of Intelligent Bio Solutions, has successfully completed the initial design phase of new assays for ketamine and tramadol testing. The assays are now moving to the next stage of development – scale-up and transfer to manufacture – in preparation for potential clinical trials.

Expanding the Drug Panel

Once trials are successfully completed, the new assays will be added to the panel of substances detectable with the Intelligent Fingerprinting Drug Screening System, further broadening its workplace and clinical applications.

  • Ketamine is a hallucinogenic drug with rising misuse worldwide. Seizures of ketamine in the U.S. increased by more than 1,100% between 2017 and 2022 [1], and UK authorities reported an 884% rise in seizures between March 2021 and March 2022 [2].

  • Tramadol, a synthetic opioid pain reliever, is increasingly being added to controlled substances lists globally due to concerns about abuse and dependency.

  • In Australia, research shows more than 50% of regular drug users reported using ketamine in 2021, up 9% from the previous year [3].

Commitment to Continuous Innovation

Harry Simeonidis, President and CEO of Intelligent Bio Solutions, said:

“While both ketamine and tramadol have legitimate medical uses, their growing misuse is a concern for workplaces worldwide. We are committed to expanding the capabilities of our fingerprint-based drug screening system to ensure it continues to meet the needs of employers and organizations. Advancing these new assays into manufacturing and preparation for trials marks an important step forward.”

European Freight Service Leader Rolls-out Fingerprint Drug Testing Solution

Cambridge, UK, June 29, 2023 — Palletways – Europe’s largest provider of express palletised distribution services – is rolling out the innovative Intelligent Fingerprinting drug testing system across its depot network.

Palletways is using the fingerprint drug test, which uses sweat to determine if employees have recently ingested illicit drugs that could affect their fitness to work, as part of its employee induction process.

The Company has purchased nine Intelligent Fingerprinting DSR-Plus fingerprint drug screening cartridge readers to make fingerprint drug testing readily available across its depot network. Sample collection using patented drug screening cartridges takes less than a minute, with an on-screen positive or negative drug screening result for each drug in the test available in just ten minutes via the portable DSR-Plus reader. Having access to the Intelligent Fingerprinting system in-house will also enable the Palletways team to test immediately in the rare occurrence of an accident to quickly eliminate if illicit drugs are present that could have affected the accident. Palletways is also purchasing Intoximeter alcohol tests for a combined workplace testing offer.

Kristie Hawkins, Manager of Palletways Birmingham Depot, said: “The company has a very good safety record, and introducing the highly visual Intelligent Fingerprinting Drug Test as part of the induction process is very important to us. We make sure that our new employees are tested for both drugs and alcohol as part of our induction process to introduce them proactively to our Drug and Alcohol Misuse Policy. Adherence to our policy helps prevent accidents for our employees and the general public while also supporting and protecting the reputation of our company.”

Palletways replaces saliva drug tests with a cleaner fingerprint method.

“The decision for Palletways to switch from using the old saliva swab test method to a simpler fingerprint test has been very well received,” adds Kristie. “The Intelligent Fingerprinting test is more hygienic for both the employee and the tester and is also less intrusive without compromising on performance. The change from swab testing to fingerprint testing has been well received across the Palletways depot network, with our employees and those responsible for testing appreciating its non-invasive nature.”

“Our Intelligent Fingerprinting drug testing solution is increasingly being chosen over more traditional approaches such as saliva and urine as it makes it much more hygienic to carry out in-house for-cause, random or pre-employment testing,” added Philip Hand, Executive Chairman of Intelligent Fingerprinting. “Palletways joins the growing list of transport and logistics specialists that are turning to fingerprint testing to support their workplace drug screening. A key factor driving this is the much shorter window of detection offered by fingerprint-based drug testing, meaning that firms can now provide much greater certainty about fitness for duty for their employees.

Palletways offers a strategically positioned network of depots, over 350 network members and hub operations in 20 countries, and offers an unrivalled ability to connect its customers’ businesses with the whole of Europe. https://www.palletwaysonline.com/en-gb

Fingerprint Drug Test receives FDA Regulatory Pathway Guidance

author-image
Intelligent Fingerprinting

Intelligent Fingerprinting, a subsidiary of Intelligent Bio Solutions, has received guidance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on the regulatory classification of its Drug Screening Cartridge.

The FDA’s preliminary assessment places the cartridge under 21 CFR 862.3650, Opiate Test System – a Class II device that requires submission of a 510(k) pre-market notification and clearance prior to marketing. This feedback provides a clear regulatory pathway as Intelligent Fingerprinting prepares to expand into the U.S.

A Step Towards U.S. Expansion

Harry Simeonidis, President and CEO of Intelligent Bio Solutions, commented:

“Receiving the FDA’s preliminary assessment is an important milestone as we move towards introducing our technology to the U.S. market. With its portability, speed, and dignified approach, we believe fingerprint drug testing can help U.S. workplaces strengthen their safety programs while making testing simpler and more efficient.”

Plans to Add Fentanyl Testing to Fingerprint-Based Drug Screening Solution

author-image
Intelligent Fingerprinting

Intelligent Fingerprinting plans to expand its lab confirmation testing service to include fentanyl and fentanyl-adulterated street drugs. This enhancement will allow organizations using the Intelligent Fingerprinting Drug Screening System to confirm the presence of fentanyl in fingerprint samples through accredited laboratory testing.

Why Fentanyl?

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid estimated to be around 50 times more potent than heroin, with just 2mg considered a potentially fatal dose [4]. It has become the most common opioid linked to overdose deaths in the U.S., with the CDC reporting more than 100,000 overdose deaths in the 12 months to November 2022, of which over 80% involved at least one opioid [1] [2]. The U.S. Joint Economic Committee estimates the opioid crisis is costing the country nearly $1.5 trillion each year [3].

How the Update Works

The Intelligent Fingerprinting system collects sweat from all ten fingertips in under a minute using a hygienic, tamper-evident cartridge. While the portable reader provides on-the-spot screening results for cannabis, cocaine, opiates, and methamphetamine, samples can also be sent for back-to-lab LC-MS/MS analysis. This highly sensitive process will now include fentanyl detection, offering an important extension to our testing capabilities.

Supporting Safer Workplaces

By adding fentanyl to our confirmation testing panel, Intelligent Fingerprinting is helping employers and organizations strengthen their drug screening policies with a quick, non-invasive, and dignified approach compared with traditional urine or saliva methods.

UK Food Processing Equipment Manufacturer Latest to Adopt Portable Fingerprint Drug Testing Solution

“Having experienced urine drug testing myself, I know it’s not a pleasant experience for anyone. So, when it came to selecting a drug screening approach for Dodman, it was clear that fingerprint testing was a major step forward for workplace drug testing.” – Chris Davies, Health and Safety Manager, Dodman

Intelligent Bio Solutions Inc. (Nasdaq: INBS) (“INBS” or the “Company”), a medical technology company delivering intelligent, rapid, non-invasive testing solutions, today announced that UK manufacturer Dodman Limited (“Dodman”), specialists in the design, manufacture, installation and maintenance of processing systems for major food manufacturers, has selected INBS’s Intelligent Fingerprinting Drug Screening System to support random and for cause drug testing activities across its operations over traditional urine tests.

Dodman, a 30-year-old family business, sought to introduce drug testing proactively to protect and enhance its health and safety reputation. After assessing the workplace drug testing product market, Dodman’s Human Resources team selected the Intelligent Fingerprinting Drug Screening System.

The system comprises a small, tamper-evident drug screening cartridge onto which ten fingerprint sweat samples are collected in under a minute, before the portable analysis unit provides an on-screen result in under ten minutes. The system can be used in-house and screens the sweat for recent drug use, including cannabis, cocaine, opiates, and methamphetamine.

Intelligent Fingerprinting – Visual deterrent, positive competitive differentiator

Chris Davies, Health and Safety Manager at Dodman, commented, “For the first time, the portability of the Intelligent Fingerprinting system means that we can test employees both at our HQ operations as well as on-site at our clients’ food manufacturing facilities where our employees are involved in lifting to install, or servicing heavy machinery with sharp and potentially dangerous components. The Intelligent Fingerprinting system can be used on-site with results quickly available within minutes. It’s a great way of encouraging our employees to adhere to health and safety policies, and also is a strong differentiator for Dodman. Our clients’ like to see our approach to enforcing our Drug Policy, highlighting our commitment to health and safety on their sites as well as ours, and we’ve received positive feedback.”

Random drug testing – protecting business reputation

“We have introduced random drug testing with Intelligent Fingerprinting to protect and promote our reputation. We are constantly using fork lifts, spider, and gantry cranes, lifting heavy stainless steel components both in our factory and on-site for our blue-chip clients. We see introducing random employee drug testing – right across the business from our Managing Director down – as a proactive safety measure for all. With the increased use of drugs in society, we wanted to promote random drug testing to keep our employees safe and also to promote our company’s commitment to health and safety as a differentiator for current and future client contracts,” added Mr. Davies.

A better way than urine tests

“With my background in the military, I have experienced drug testing first-hand. Urine tests are unpleasant for all involved – there is nothing nice about them for the tester or the indignity for the candidate. As soon as I saw how quick, unintrusive and easy to use the Intelligent Fingerprinting drug testing system is, I knew it was the in-house system for Dodman. It is so quick and easy, I was surprised how it worked in the initial demo, but once the Intelligent Fingerprinting team explained the science to me, it all made absolute sense. We have every confidence in the system,” concluded Mr. Davies.

“We’re excited that Dodman has selected our Intelligent Fingerprinting solution to support their drug testing activities,” said Harry Simeonidis, President and CEO of Intelligent Bio Solutions. “While most companies recognize the importance of drug testing to help ensure employees’ safety, many people are simply uncomfortable with traditional urine drug testing methods. We are happy to offer an organization like Dodman an alternative method that is portable, quick, efficient and highly accurate.”

Based in Rochdale, A & F Sprinklers works with customers ranging from small local businesses to major retailers. A recent upgrade to the latest Intelligent Fingerprinting Drug Screening Reader has allowed its HR team to almost triple productivity when carrying out random tests, making the process faster and more efficient.

Why Fingerprint Testing?

The Intelligent Fingerprinting system analyzes sweat collected from fingerprints to check for recent use of cannabis, cocaine, opiates, and methamphetamine. Testing takes place in-house, is quick and non-intrusive, and provides a strong deterrent to help employees follow Health & Safety policies.

Dan Clayton, HR Manager at A & F Sprinklers, said:

Intelligent Bio Solutions Inc. Announces Leading Food Industry Logistics Provider to Implement Fingerprint Drug Testing, Replacing Urine Testing

  • Boughey Distribution switches to Intelligent Fingerprinting for its faster end-to-end testing, non-invasive nature, and ability to conduct tests in-house

NEW YORK, February 7, 2023 Intelligent Bio Solutions Inc. (Nasdaq: INBS) (the “Company”), today announced that Boughey Distribution (“Boughey”), one of the United Kingdom’s leading logistics providers to the food industry, has selected the on-the-spot fingerprint test from the Company’s subsidiary, Intelligent Fingerprinting,to support its random drug screening program, replacing its previous urine-based test.

Key benefits of Intelligent Fingerprinting for Boughey include the ability to administer random testing in-house, removing the need to engage external testing providers. The Company’s fingerprint technology is also non-invasive, quick, and more hygienic than urine testing, with no need to source meeting rooms and toilet facilities to administer the testing.

Intelligent Fingerprinting works by analyzing sweat to screen for recent drug use, including cannabis, cocaine, opiates, and methamphetamine. The portable system enables Boughey’s Human Resources (HR) team to conduct simple, non-intrusive testing anytime and virtually anywhere, helping to serve as a deterrent and encouraging employees to adhere to Health & Safety policies. With fingerprint sample collection in seconds and on-screen results in 10 minutes, fingerprint testing’s rapid performance will also allow Boughey to conduct its random testing promptly and efficiently.

Boughey’s Head of Human Resources, Mark Batch, said: “We took the decision to start random alcohol & drug testing as a step-change to help improve our health and safety culture. We felt it was also important to re-affirm the importance of being in a fit state for work, particularly given the huge amount of manual handling equipment and vehicles we operate on/off-site. Over time, it became clear that we also needed to find a way to speed up the random drug testing process – ideally in a way that was also less intrusive than our existing urine testing method.”

“Having reviewed potential alternatives and testing technologies on the market, we were impressed by the Intelligent Fingerprinting team and the way the fingerprint-based test could resolve our concerns around urine testing,” continued Mr. Batch. “We particularly liked how the end-to-end process of fingerprint testing could reduce the time taken to test our employees. Also, Intelligent Fingerprinting’s shorter window of detection means that our focus is on fitness for work rather than what employees were doing in their personal time. Additionally, the ability to conduct all our testing in-house gives us much more control over the process.”

Mr. Batch noted that as part of Boughey’s alcohol & drugs policy, all employees are made aware that they could be tested at any time as part of the random testing program and that the Company’s HR team generally conducts random testing every 8-12 weeks.

“We’re delighted that Boughey Distribution has joined a growing list of transport and logistics specialists who have turned to fingerprint testing to support their workplace drug screening,” added Harry Simeonidis, President and CEO of Intelligent Bio Solutions. “The ease-of-use and portability of the Intelligent Fingerprinting drug screening system means it is particularly flexible, and a useful option for employers such as Boughey that are looking to implement truly random and spontaneous workplace testing.”

Fingerprint-based drug testing – how it works

Intelligent Fingerprinting’s drug testing system features a small, tamper-evident drug screening cartridge onto which ten fingerprint sweat samples are collected in a process that takes less than a minute. The Intelligent Fingerprinting portable analysis unit then reads the cartridge and provides a positive or negative result on-screen for all drugs in the test in ten minutes.
