Whenever we ingest something, our bodies process – or metabolize – what we’ve ingested to produce secondary chemicals (known as metabolites) which are detectable in blood, urine, saliva and sweat. The metabolites we produce are specific to the substances we have consumed and traditional drug tests work similarly by screening for drugs and drug metabolites in body fluid samples.

Our Drug Screening Technique

The Intelligent Fingerprinting Drug Screening System checks for potential evidence of recent drug misuse by screening for specific drugs or their metabolites in sweat collected from fingerprints.

Our four-panel tests are quick and simple to administer, thanks to the non-invasive sample collection method. We currently offer two versions of our drug test cartridge and each of these screens for multiple drug groups simultaneously:

  • DSC-5 Drug Screening Cartridge – screens for opiates, methamphetamine, cocaine and cannabis
  • DSC-8 Drug Screening Cartridge – screens for opiates, methadone, benzodiazepines and buprenorphine

Our two-part Drug Screening System consists of single-use, tamper-evident Intelligent Fingerprinting Cartridges (for sample collection) and the portable Intelligent Fingerprinting Reader 1000 analysis unit.

The Intelligent Fingerprinting Cartridge uses lateral flow assay technology and fluorescence-labeled antibodies to selectively detect specific drugs or their metabolites in eccrine sweat collected from fingerprints.

The portable Reader 1000 is a highly sensitive, robust and effective fluorescence measurement instrument which is used to read the Intelligent Fingerprinting Cartridge, providing a presumptive positive or negative result for each drug in the test within minutes.

Proprietary Drug Screening Reagents

Our scientists have developed highly sensitive reagents to enable the detection of trace substances in the eccrine sweat contained in fingerprints, including drugs and drug metabolites.

Our proprietary reagents can be formulated to screen for many more drugs of abuse than the groups that are currently available. This flexibility will enable us to meet customer needs by adapting our Drug Screening System in response to changing patterns of drug misuse.

Pioneering Research

Intelligent Fingerprinting’s drug screening technique is based on the pioneering research of our Founder and Chief Scientific Officer, Professor David Russell at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England.

Professor Russell’s research, which has been published in leading scientific journals, focused on the study of drugs and drug metabolites in fingerprints. Through his work he discovered that drug misuse could be detected through analysis of the tiny traces of sweat in a fingerprint.
