New fingerprint drug test reader takes portable drug screening to the next level

  • Compact, lightweight system enables convenient in-situ analysis of fingerprint-based drug tests with results in minutes
  • Designed and manufactured in the UK, the resilient DSR-Plus is fully portable with all-day battery life

Intelligent Fingerprinting, developer of the world’s first commercially available fingerprint drug test, is taking its non-invasive and easy-to-use drug testing system to the next level with the introduction of a new, more portable and compact reader device. The new DSR-Plus reader is light (just 980g) with a battery that supports a day’s mobile operation and, in combination with the company’s unique fingerprint drug screening cartridges, enables rapid screening for multiple drugs in around ten minutes – ideal for workplace drug testing or drug rehabilitation organisations.

Unlike traditional drug screening tests which require the collection of saliva or urine samples and can be time consuming and undignified, the Intelligent Fingerprinting system works by analysing sweat collected from fingerprints to screen for specific drugs and drug metabolites. The non-invasive nature of this approach removes the requirement for specialist collection areas, gender-specific staff (for urine sample collection supervision) and clinical waste disposal for biohazardous body fluids.

Designed and manufactured in the UK, the new DSR-Plus reader’s compact and portable specification enables simpler and faster drug testing than traditional approaches, providing organisations with drug screening support wherever and whenever it’s needed. The new model has also been designed with no moving parts to ensure resiliency when customers transport it between different sites.

The DSR-Plus can be used to support a range of drug screening applications, including establishing fitness for duty in safety-critical workspaces and supporting drug recovery and offender management programmes. The reader is used to analyse the fingerprint sweat samples collected onto Intelligent Fingerprinting’s Drug Screening Cartridge. Within ten minutes of inserting the Cartridge into the DSR-Plus, a positive or negative result is provided on-screen for each drug in the test.

“Since introducing our revolutionary drug screening system in 2017, we’ve seen our unique concept of fast, simple fingerprint-based drug testing gain traction, whether that’s in safety-critical workplace environments such as construction, transport or shipping; drug rehabilitation services, or more specialist applications such as detecting drug mules at airports, supporting traffic police, or for use by coroners to assist in gaining an early understanding of the possible cause of a death,” commented Intelligent Fingerprinting’s Executive Chairman, Philip Hand. “With the launch of our new, compact DSR-Plus portable reader, we’re providing our customers with a convenient and non-invasive drug test system that’s hygienic and easy-to-use anytime, almost anywhere. Designing and manufacturing our new reader locally in the UK also provides peace of mind to our expanding customer base that our entire solution – comprising the reader and cartridges – is from one provider who is committed to continual system development.”

Intelligent Fingerprinting’s new DSR-Plus reader offers a number of key customer benefits, including:

  • Easier portable operation – the DSR-Plus is compact and weighs less than 1kg (three times lighter than its predecessor)
  • Improved support for mobile use – a reliable 7.5 hour battery life makes remote mobile screening much more convenient
  • Faster drug screening cartridge analysis – taking just ten seconds to analyse the cartridge following test incubation – that’s five times faster than the previous reader
  • Easy-to-use – simple touchscreen operation and clear on-screen results; convenient front-loading cartridge insertion; easier results retrieval; and reader calibration-check enabled via an included cartridge
  • Support for international operation – the DSR-Plus features interchangeable power packs compatible with multiple international mains connections

Fingerprint-based drug testing – how it works
Intelligent Fingerprinting’s drug testing solution features a small, tamper-evident drug screening cartridge onto which ten fingerprint sweat samples are collected, in a process which takes less than a minute. The Intelligent Fingerprinting DSR-Plus then reads the cartridge and provides a positive or negative result on-screen for all drugs in the test in ten minutes. A fingerprint-based laboratory confirmation service is also available.
