Intelligent Fingerprinting strengthens commercial team
- Appoints Darren Hamshaw – formerly of the Forensic Science Service and independent testing laboratory, LGC
- Fingerprint drug testing set to support employers, coroners, drug treatment services and offender management
Intelligent Fingerprinting, the Cambridge-based developer of the world’s first portable fingerprint-based drug test, has expanded its commercial team in response to strong interest in its revolutionary technology. Darren Hamshaw joins the commercial team based at Intelligent Fingerprinting’s Cambridge HQ, where he will focus on extending the company’s sales drive to support employers, coroners, drug treatment services and offender management.
Darren brings over 15 years’ experience of working with the Forensic Science Service, helping police forces develop forensic science strategies as well as working on high profile criminal investigations. He also worked as a senior account manager with LGC, an independent testing laboratory and an existing partner of Intelligent Fingerprinting, where he worked closely with Her Majesty’s Coroners on developing toxicology processes within post-mortem services.
“Sales of our innovative fingerprint drug test are gaining momentum both in the UK and internationally, and Darren’s deep sector expertise across our key markets will be of real value to our commercial team,” said Jerry Walker, CEO, Intelligent Fingerprinting. “Darren’s familiarity within the criminal justice arena will be important to the company as we establish the advantages of fingerprint-based drug testing to probation teams and for providing early intelligence to coroners during their investigations.”
Darren Hamshaw added: “Intelligent Fingerprinting is targeting a number of key markets – working alongside coroners, the police, and the prison service – where I’ve had direct experience during my career, so joining the company presents a great opportunity to promote the exciting technology across the criminal justice community. I’ve been tracking Intelligent Fingerprinting’s approach to drug testing from product development through to launch last year, and it’s become increasingly apparent that the technology can bring real benefits to my customers in terms of its ease-of-use, and in complementing forensics toxicology by providing very early intelligence on possible drug misuse.”
Fingerprint-based drug testing – how it works
Intelligent Fingerprinting’s drug testing solution features a single-use, tamper-evident drug screening cartridge that takes just five seconds to collect a sweat sample. The Intelligent Fingerprinting portable analysis unit then reads the cartridge and provides a positive or negative result on-screen for cocaine, opiates, cannabis and amphetamines in just ten minutes.

About Intelligent Fingerprinting
Launched in August 2017, Intelligent Fingerprinting’s portable Drug Screening System works by analysing the sweat from a fingerprint sample. It is non-invasive, fast and cost-effective – screening for multiple drug groups simultaneously (currently amphetamines, cannabis, cocaine and opiates) with sample collection taking 5 seconds and results in minutes. A laboratory confirmation service is also available.
The system is currently being marketed to the criminal justice arena, drug rehabilitation services, offender management, workplace and occupational health services. The technique has potential for many other uses including healthcare diagnostics and homeland security applications.
Founded in 2007, Intelligent Fingerprinting is a spin-out company from the University of East Anglia (UEA). The company is based in Cambridge, England and currently employs around 30 people. www.intelligentfingerprinting.com Twitter @iFingerprinting
