Coroners

Intelligent Fingerprinting’s non-invasive Drug Screening System provides a fast and convenient way for coroners to screen for recent drug use as soon as a body arrives at the mortuary. The new approach could save coroners’ time and resources by providing early intelligence on cause of death, helping to prioritise when a full post mortem is needed and potentially enabling earlier release of the deceased back to their families.

Benefits

Toxicology tests to provide evidence of recent drug use supply important information which enables coroners and their staff to investigate cause of death. Conventional toxicology tests usually require collection of invasive body fluid samples from the deceased and laboratory analysis that can be time consuming and costly. Intelligent Fingerprinting’s non-invasive Drug Screening System provides a fast and convenient way for coroners to screen for recent drug use that can be carried out immediately on arrival of the deceased at the mortuary.

By providing early intelligence on cause of death, Intelligent Fingerprinting’s Drug Screening System could help coroners to determine if further investigation is required, or may enable them to release the deceased to their families sooner.

FAQs

  • How does the Intelligent Fingerprinting Drug Screening System work?

The system screens for drug use by analysing chemicals (known as metabolites) contained in the minute traces of eccrine sweat found in a fingerprint. The presence of drug metabolites in someone’s fingerprint sweat indicates drug use by that individual. Note: Drug metabolites are produced by the body as a result of normal metabolic processes and can be analysed to identify the drug substances a person may have ingested, inhaled or injected.

  • Why should I switch to the Intelligent Fingerprinting Drug Screening System?

In short, for speed and convenience. Our portable fingerprint-based drug test is quick and easy to perform any time, in a variety of locations. In comparison with traditional testing procedures involving saliva or urine, fingerprint sample collection is dignified and hygienic and it takes just 5 seconds to deposit a fingerprint onto our disposable screening cartridge. The test can be administered by non-medical, non-gender-specific staff and there is no need for specialist collection facilities or clinical waste disposal for used cartridges.

  • How easy is it to use?

The system is simple and convenient to use, with no need for specialist staff or specially prepared collection areas. The fingerprint sample is collected onto the Intelligent Fingerprinting Cartridge. The Cartridge is analysed using the portable Intelligent Fingerprinting Reader 1000 (which is battery-powered or can be plugged into the mains), touchscreen-operated and fully automated. Within ten minutes the screen displays a simple negative or positive result against pre-determined thresholds for each drug in the test used.

  • Which drugs does it detect?

The Intelligent Fingerprinting Drug Screening System currently detects four commonly abused drug groups: amphetamines, cannabis, cocaine and opiates.

  • How reliable is fingerprint drug screening?

Intelligent Fingerprinting uses immunoassay chemistry as part of its fingerprint drug detection system. Immunoassay tests are routinely used for drug screening applications and the Intelligent Fingerprinting system mirrors these in terms of overall reliability and accuracy.

  • How quick is the test?

The Intelligent Fingerprinting Reader 1000 screens the fingerprint sample for multiple drugs of abuse in under 10 minutes.

  • When will the Drug Screening System be available?
